The Best Surround Sound System

What points to should you consider; 5.1 or 7.1 and above, Dolby digitaland/or DTS, what connectivity options must you have to hook everything up, and is the sound quality any good...?

Sound is a funny thing; some people will get so caught up in tiny differences in sound quality that you wouldn’t know where to start if looking for a new surround sound system.

5.1 to 13.1 Surround Sound?
Well Dolby Digital or DTS (Digital Theater System) 5.1 is true surround - that is 5 speakers (1 center, 1 front left, 1 right, 1 rear left and 1 rear right) plus a sub woofer. You can get up to 13.1 surround sound but personally I feel the increase in price from 5.1 to 13.1 compared to the return in sound quality is not worth the extra cash.

Dolby Digital and DTS
Both Dolby Digital and DTS formats sound great with games, music and movies – and a lot of systems offer both formats. Dolby Digital and DTS are pretty similar but I do think DTS has the edge in pure sound quality, especially in music terms. However it is good to have a system that offers both formats. Connectivity
It is not only perfect sound you should be looking for but also connectivity options. If you’re like me and want your surround sound system to be compatible with your games system, PC, TV, DVD etc then you need to make sure you have a host of connections possibilities. You should look for a digital optical connection (ideal for DVDs and games consoles), a coaxial connection and maybe an audio jack to cover your sound needs.
