The Laserpod orb, a mini box full of lasers, crystals, lights and LEDs designed to produce the ultimate eye-popping laser experience at an affordable price. But is it really any good...?
The 'Good'
Amazing laser show for the price
Great for parties and chilling alike
Wall and ceiling mountable
Rotating head to control the direction of the display
The 'Bad'
Could be brighter as ambient light can drown out the lasers
Green lasers are cool but the Laserpod Orb has 3 red
Has to be quite dark to get the best effect
The Verdict
An amazing array of awe-inspiring laser light displays that will never fail to impress at any party. And for the £39.97 ($69.99) price tag you will not get any other laser or regular light display that even comes close to the eye-popping performance of the Laserpod Orb (Technology has moved on, check out our new Laser favorites at the bottom of the page)..
Details
The Laserpod Orb houses, 3 red laser diodes, 3 LEDs and a rotating crystal. The light producing elements shine through the rotating crystal and reflect and fracture to create a supernova laser display of galaxy mimicking excellence – you get a definite and beautiful galaxy recreation.
The Laserpod is not without issues though... It has to be pretty dark to appreciate the intricacy of the display, and it has to be completely dark to see all the amazing but subtle effects (ambient light will dampen any of the effects). And it is the subtle effects that help give the truly beautiful displays...
...Don’t get me wrong the display is ok when set in ambient light but to really appreciate the Laserpod Orb you need complete darkness.
Now, if they create a new model with geen lasers (more powerful) we should hopefully see some truly astonishing laser displays in most light conditions.
The Laserpod Orb is mains powered and currently only comes supplied with a UK adaptor as it is not currently available in the USA. However, Hugh Bell of Laserpod says "the first stock to be available in the US arrives at the end of May and will have UL approved USA type adaptors". The Laserpod Orb and more can be found at Laserpod.com
However I know ThinkGeek(US) do the original but still fantastic Laserpod which offers a great display but lacks postioning options, the original can be run from batteries and a US adaptor (supplied).
All Laserpods are sold with a power adaptor which is territory specific.
Hugh Bell (CEO) of Laserpod has kindly offered some more info that may be of interest...
"The Laserpod Orb and Original are both powered by the same lasers which are class II (less than or equal to 1mW) which satisfies a more stringent EU directive on lasers than the US, which allows class III lasers (less than or equal to 5mW). For the price, 3 red lasers is wonderful value.
